Earning a credential demonstrates your commitment to your career and gives you valuable insights and real-world skills you can use on the job. Credentials also validate your knowledge and skills, enhance your credibility, boost your confidence and earn you respect among clients and peers.

CREDENTIAL-COURSE-POLICIES
Certified Apartment Managers (CAM)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Managers (CAM) Course in the winter and fall of each year.
CAM Flyer
Earning your CAM credential allows you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge, and ability to manage an apartment community and achieve owners’ investment goals.
If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the first day of class. The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register with further instructions.
Course Requirements:
To obtain the CAM credential, candidates must complete the following:
- Minimum of 12 months of onsite property management experience. (This can be obtained while taking the course; you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met.)
- Successful completion of all CAM coursework (totaling 40 hours).
- Meet all examination standards within six (6) months of declaring candidacy.

Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) designate course in the spring of each year.
CAPS Flyer
Earning your Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation enhances your leadership skills, better interpret property results and track progress toward property or portfolio objectives. Whether you are a new or experienced portfolio supervisor, enhance your knowledge and on-the-job performance.
If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning. The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register.
Course Requirements:
- Minimum of 24 months employment as a multi-site supervisor OR be a CAM in good standing with 24 months employment as an apartment manager.
- Successful completion of all CAPS course work (totaling 40 hours)
- Pass the CAPS exam within six (6) months of declaring candidacy
Current Class Cost: $995.00 for members, & $1150.00/nonmembers.

Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (Formally known as NALP) in the fall of each year.
CALP Flyer
Leasing professionals are the first people prospective residents meet, and often their only gauge of the property staff. This course is designed to teach these professionals skills to help them become top producers.
If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning. The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register.
Course Requirements:
- Minimum of six months of onsite property management experience in a leasing role (This can be obtained while taking the course; you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met).
- Successful completion of seven CALP courses
- Pass the examination within six (6) months of declaring candidacy

Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT)

SLAA hosts the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) in the fall of each year.

If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning. The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register.
Course Requirements:
- To obtain the CAMT credential, candidates must complete the following:
- Minimum of 12 months of apartment or rental housing maintenance experience.
- If the candidate has not met this experience requirement before enrolling in the program, they will be eligible to earn the Provisional CAMT.
- Once the Provisional CAMT is earned, the credential holder has two years from the date the Provisional CAMT was earned to meet the twelve-months experience requirement and upgrade to the full CAMT credential. If the credential holder fails to submit the application in PACE and meet all requirements to upgrade to the full CAMT within the two-year window, they will be required to take the course and pass the exam again. The Provisional CAMT will expire after two years.
- To upgrade from the Provisional CAMT to the full CAMT, follow these instructions.
- Successful completion of all CAMT classroom and online coursework.
- Pass the examination.
