Earning a credential demonstrates  your commitment to your career and gives you valuable insights and real-world skills you can use on the job. Credentials also validate your knowledge and skills, enhance your credibility, boost your confidence and earn you respect among clients and peers.

Certified Apartment Managers (CAM)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Managers (CAM) Course in the spring and fall of each year.

Earning your CAM credential allows you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge, and ability to manage an apartment community and achieve owners’ investment goals.

If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning.  The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register. 

Course Requirements:

To obtain the CAM credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Minimum of 12 months of onsite property management experience
  • Meet all examination standards within six (6) months of declaring candidacy
  • Course curriculum totals approximately 40 hours (first 6 days), and the 7thh day of class is a mandatory review and a 4-hour exam.

Before you register for this course, it is a requirement to complete the CAM Self-Assessment tool below.  Please send a screenshot of your results to Karen or Deb in the SLAA office at info@slaa.org.  This tool will help you and SLAA to determine if you are ready to successfully complete all the course requirements.

Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) designate course in the summer of each year (July - August).

Earning your Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation enhances your leadership skills, better interpret property results and track progress toward property or portfolio objectives. Whether you are a new or experienced portfolio supervisor, enhance your knowledge and on-the-job performance.

If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning.  The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register. 

Course Requirements:

  • Have worked as a multi-site supervisor for 24 months or be a CAM, ARM or RAM designate in good standing with 24 months of management experience
  • Successfully complete all five courses (which total approximately 30 hours)
  • Meet all examination requirements, within 6 months of declaring your candidacy for CAPS.

Current Class Cost: $700.00 for members, $900.00 for nonmembers.

Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP)

SLAA hosts the Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (Formally known as NALP) in the spring and fall of each year. 

CALP Flyer

Leasing professionals are the first people prospective residents meet, and often their only gauge of the property staff. This course is designed to teach these professionals skills to help them become top producers.

If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning.  The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register. 

Course Requirements:

  • Minimum of six months of onsite property management experience in a leasing role (This can be obtained while taking the course; you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met.)
  • Successful completion of seven CALP courses
  • Pass the examination within six (6) months of declaring candidacy

Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT)

SLAA hosts the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) in the fall of every year.

Course Requirements:

  • Minimum of 12 months of apartment or rental housing maintenance experience. (This can be obtained while taking the course, you will receive a provisional certificate until this requirement is met.)  
  • Successful completion of all CAMT coursework
  • Pass the examination within six (6) months of declaring candidacy

Current Class Cost: $650/members and $845.00/nonmembers

Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS)

The Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS) course is offered in the spring and fall, in conjunction with the CAM course.

Earning CAS allows you to network with your peers from other companies, learn about the benefits and activities your local apartment association offers and engage in apartment association meetings and events. The course is an opportunity for suppliers to hear the everyday challenges faced by apartment-manager customers. 

If you are interested, meet the necessary requirements, and most importantly, your schedule permits, please register for the class, and pay your $100.00 deposit to hold your seat. Your remaining balance will be due prior to the class beginning.  The SLAA office will contact you shortly after you register. 

Course Requirements:

To obtain the CAS credential, candidates must complete the following:

  • Employment within the apartment industry in a supplier position
  • Complete the Supplier Success Course
  • Successful completion of all CAS coursework (totaling 26 hours)
  • Meet all examination standards within six (6) months of declaring candidacy

Current Pricing for the CAS Course:  

Part 1 will cost $300, which you will pay to the SLAA. This price includes your eBook, attendance of 3 days of classes, and sitting for your final exam. 

  1. When you register, you must pay the $100.00 deposit to hold your seat.
  2. Or, you can pay the full fee of $300.00 when you register.        
  3. Full payment is due one week prior to class - payment must be received in order to purchase eBook. 

Part 2 will cost $116 and you will buy it off the Visto website. 

In total, the class will cost $416.00
